TRIVANDRUM:

With the Arabian Sea in the west and a vast network of lake, lagoons and fresh water rivers criss-crossing it, Alapuzha is referred to as the Venice of the East by travelers from across the world, this backwater county is also home to diverse animal and bird life. Alapuzha is also famous for its boat race, beaches, marine products and coir industry. A singularity of this land is the region called Kuttanad land of lush paddy fields referred to the Rice Bowel of Kerala and one of the few places in the world where farming is below sea level.
Places to visit:-
Kovalam Beach (16Kms): This internationally renowned beach has been favorite haunt of tourists since the 1930 s. Kovalam consists of three adjacent crescent beaches. The southernmost known as the lighthouse beach, is the popular. Kovalam offer accommodation options to suite all budgets.
Padhmanabha Swami Temple: The temple is located inside the East Fort. Dedicated to Lord Vishnu, the Temple is a blend of the Kerala and Dravidian styles of architecture. It is known for its mural paintings and stone carving. One among the 108 sacred Vishnu temples in India, the presiding deity in here is Lord Vishnu reclining on Anantha the Serpent. Only Hindus are allowed inside the temple.

Dress code: Men-Dhoti. Women - Saree and blouse.

Kuthiramalika (Puthanmalika) Palace Museum: This palace was built by Maharaja Swathi Thirunal Balarama Varma the King of Travancore, who was a great poet, musician, social reformer and statesman. This rare specimen of workmanship in the traditional Travancore style of architecture also has exquisite wood carvings. The palace museum displays paintings and various priceless collection of the royal family and is located near the Sree Padhmanabha Swami temple.

The Napier Museum: Built in 19th century, this Indo – Saracenic structure boasts a natural air conditioning system and houses a rare collection of archeological and historic artifacts, bronze idols, ancient ornaments, a temple chariot and ivory carvings.

OPEN: 10:00Hrs to 16:45Hrs. Closed on Mondays, Wednesday forenoons, January 26th, August 15th, Thiruvonam and Mahanavami.
Hill Palace Museum (Tripunithura): Hill palace museum is suited 12 Kms away from Ernakulam on the Ernakulam Chottanikara route. Different type of sculptures, collection of rare coins, old weapons, manuscripts in ancient lipis and collection from the Cochin Royal family is exhibited here. Tourist may also visit the beer park situated there.

OPEN: 9.00 hrs to 12.30 hrs and 14.00 hrs to 6.30 hrs. Closed on Mondays and national holidays.

Sree Chithira Art Gallery: Located near the Napier Museum, this art gallery displays select paintings of Raja Ravi Varma, Svetlova and Nicholas Roerich and exquisite works from the Raja put, Mugal and Tanjore schools of art in India. The collection also includes paintings from China, Japan, Tibet and Bali.
Cherai Beach: This lovely beach bordering Vypeen Islands ideal for swimming. Dolphins are occasionally seen here, a typical Kerala village with paddy fields and coconut groves nearby is an added attraction.

The Zoological Park: One of the first Zoos in India, it is located in a well planed botanical garden. With huge trees like Frangipani and Jacaranda dotting and sprawling lawns and wildfowl swimming in the lake, it is like a small jungle in the heart of the city. A reptile house with different species of snakes is also located in the premises.

Entrance Fee: Museum & Art Gallery Adults Rs.4/- and Children Rs.2/- Camera permit Rs.15/-
